As I have said from the beginning I like to lay loose on rules and let people basically police themselves. That obviously has not been working too well as of late, so I'd like to try a new method of moderating.
From this point forward, posts that are off-topic or break the rules of this forum (Forum Rules) will be moved to *Off-Topic Rants*, and in extreme cases may be edited or deleted altogether.
Here is a little more detail on how this new moderation will work.
- Posts that briefly drift off-topic in a friendly manner (within the rules) will be left alone as long as they get back on topic eventually.
- Posts/conversations that veer completely off-topic and are on the cusp of breaking the rules, will be moved. This would include threads that attack traders, question the motives of other members, make fun of long term shareholders etc...
- Posts that have good content, but also include a rule violation will result in having the violation moved off-topic with the good content remaining. If the violation is serious enough the poster will receive a warning.
- Posts that are over-the-top offensive can potentially be deleted altogether along with the poster receiving a warning.
Two warnings will result in an automatic 1 week ban. The 2nd ban is for one-month and the 3rd ban will be permanent.
I do not like editing or deleting posts as I think it is important that members see how fellow members behave. That will really be the last option. I'll need everyone's help on this. If you see posts that are in violation of the rules, please continue to report them, as you often do.
The idea of this rule enforcement is not to try and censor anyone or become over-reaching with the rules. It is rather an effort to keep threads from turning into off-topic arguments due to snide comments, condescending remarks, and personal attacks. Debates that get heated are permitted as I believe they can be healthy, just as long as they do not get personal.
Everyone starts with a clean slate.
If anyone has any questions or ideas about this new rule enforcement please feel free to PM me or ask in the "Forum Feedback and Suggestions" forum.
Thanks!
JHam
P.S. I went ahead and locked some threads where there were too many violations to move. It's best to just create a new thread and start from scratch.
