All,
As we continue to look for the next big biotech winner, I'm switching gears for a minute...
I'm happy to announce that I’m helping my friend – Scott Stankavage - in his quest to become the top fundraiser for a chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). Scott, a father of 7, was recently diagnosed with leukemia, and has been nominated as a candidate for The LLS 2016 Man of the Year. Every dollar I raise counts as a vote for Scott for LLS Man of the Year, but more importantly, the money I raise helps fund cures for cancer.
A little more on why I’m helping Scott raise money for LLS. Two reasons…
First, I’m doing it for Scott, as he was recently diagnosed with leukemia. Scott was a highly successful college quarterback at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill back in the early 1980s when UNC was nationally ranked in the top 10. He played with Lawrence Taylor at UNC, and went on to play in the NFL backing up John Elway in Denver for several years. I met Scott in the late 1980s and we bonded through the years playing basketball together. On the basketball court, our philosophy was to play each possession and each moment perfectly and with maximum effort, and by taking care of the little things in each moment, we could not be beat. Likewise, if you know him, you know that he lives his life in a similar manner. He’s one of the most intense, focused, fun, engaged, thoughtful, and deep thinking people you’ll ever meet. He’s always led his life in ways where he’s been an inspiration to others, so it was no surprise to me that after learning about his diagnosis last year of a particularly difficult form of leukemia (look up P17), Scott looked inward and – despite his illness - continues to inspire others through his thoughts, actions, and writings. Check out his new book The Quarterback Mentor, which is just another example of something he’s done to help inspire others, regardless of his own personal challenges. Quite simply, Scott Stankavage is an exceptional human being, who lives life the way it’s meant to be lived. This fundraising effort for LLS is my way of thanking Scott for everything he’s given me over the years through his friendship.
Second, I’m doing it because of my belief in the power and promise of regenerative medicine to cure previously incurable diseases. By donating and helping Scott raise money, I think of it as a way to help move regenerative medicine therapies forward. All the money raised will go directly to LLS in support of its longstanding mission to find a cure for blood cancers and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
How do you donate which takes less than 5 minutes? You can make a secure tax-deductible donation online by visiting my fundraising website at
Jckrdu's Fundraising Website for LLS When making the donation, you’ll be given the option to send a message directly to Scott. Even if you don’t know Scott, please consider a gift in honor of someone you know personally who has been touched by cancer. If anything I stated in this letter resonated with you in any way, I’m asking you to click that link right now and make a donation of any size.
My sincere thanks in advance, for any contribution you can make.
