Ocata’s chief scientific officer to join Astellas By Robert Weisman GLOBE STAFF FEBRUARY 22, 2016 The chief scientific officer of Ocata Therapeutics Inc. will join Astellas Pharma Inc., the Japanese drug maker that acquired Marlborough-based Ocata earlier this month through a $379 million tender offer. Robert Lanza, one of the most prominent scientists in the field of stem cell biology, said in an e-mail that he has accepted a job leading global regenerative medicine efforts at Astellas. “Astellas has determined that the Boston area was the ideal location to expand their regenerative medicine presence,” Lanza said. “This is also a win situation for patients, Astellas has an incredibly talented team that is committed to finding new regenerative medicine therapies, and in particular for diseases that have no treatments.” Lanza, who was the first scientist to clone an endangered species in 2001, is responsible for hundreds of inventions, books, and scientific papers on stem cell biology and tissue engineering. At Ocata, formerly known as Advanced Cell Technology Inc., he has led development of stem cell therapies for macular degeneration and other debilitating conditions. None have yet been submitted for regulatory approval. His continuing role at Ocata after the Astellas takeover, and whether he even supported the buyout, was the subject of intense speculation among many shareholders who have opposed the tender offer. Astellas had to extend the offer twice before it gathered enough shares to complete the transaction, with some investors complaining that the offer undervalued Ocata and other objected to the company being sold to a foreign buyer. In his email, Lanza said he has been in “back-to-back integration meetings” with Astellas executives for the past week. He sounded an upbeat note. “I’ve spent my life trying to find ways to help these patients and I can honestly say for the first time that we have the resources to succeed,” he wrote.Lanza said Astellas has given him “the green light to move ahead, not only with our various eye programs, but for a diverse range of other diseases, including several promising therapies that had to be tabled [by Ocata] because of a lack of staff and money.”He also said that “I can assure investors who believed in Ocata that their dedication was not in vain. The research programs are in good hands, and with people who truly believe in the science.” Robert Weisman can be reached at robert.weisman@globe.com. Follow him on Twitter @globerobw. I'm happy for Lanza and the other scientists that they get to move their life's work forward, happy for patients as well.

According to Eric Anderson, of Anderson Sleater....Delaware Courts are much faster than other states, and he estimates the time to go to court would be 9 months to 1 year (he also said there is a chance of settlement prior to court). On the home page, on the right side I can see what is being posted. But if I try to access OCATA forum, I get that message. Obviously, Jason doesn't want people to come in. Did he even own shares in OCATA at the end. Weird Place. Selluwd, can you get into the site.

Kuk, if you go to "investorstemcell.com" directly without using your saved bookmarks with the ocata addresses, the site is still operating. If you are still a member, you should be able to reach out to those folks through some of the other forum sub-sites.

I want to thank Irv Arons from iCell for spreading the word regarding gene editing, especially Editas (EDIT). Ipo'ed last month at 16, today it is 35 and I have been accumulating since day one, with stop losses in place.
EDIT: I sold out my position yesterday at $41.72. Thanks again Irv.

We're our Dog Trials put into our OCATA valuation. This is what irks me. We spent money and what did we get for it? That is why we are filing a petition, We want all the answers. I wanna know how far the trials got, and what were the results.

We kept getting the BS story about only publishing in Peer review. That's one of the reasons why the price was held flat.

I started investing in bios when ocata was in the 5s. I ended making a nice quick profit and so was happy about the buyout, although i understand the disappointment many investors feel since they were hoping for a much higher share price. Currently, I have a position in ATHX, which are using adult stem cells to treat stroke. I think this market is as big or bigger than what ocata was hoping to address with its cells. Not only that, but ATHX is further along than ocata and it's share price is only about $2. I'm not trying to spam for another stock here...just making the point that there are even better deals in the stem cell space to be had than ocata, so why linger and be so bitter about it. Doesn't seem like sensible investment strategy.

This to me is the silver lining. Timing IS everything. Depending on the US Petroleum report released tomorrow I may be a buyer of Oil stocks. Sometimes you just have to move along. The whole OCATA fiasco has actually been a blessing for me. Though I expected $12 a share and went heavily with margin when Ocata visited the 3's, I unlocked and tendered my $5.15 cost average shares around the first of February, went long with oil the day after posting this on the 16th. I am up 48.5 percent for a mid six figure gain with my oil trades, and I expect a true double from here on the MRO and another 50% on CPE if and when oil hits 50 a barrel. Russia is at peak oil and beginning to decline with no new investment for the past year in infrastructure, the Saudis are at peak production and and really need oil to be $50 to sustain their spending otherwise the natives will become restless, and Iran will take years, imo, to reach their 4m barrel target. The timing of the merger turned out to be fortunate by forcing me to reallocate previous dead money into a beaten down sector. EDIT: 4.20. Not to blow my own horn, but look at CPE/MRO today and also back in Feb on the 16th when I posted. This is paying off in ways Ocata never could. I held onto Ocata since 2006ish and now I never even think about stem cells. Though someday I might. We have a saying here in Texas, It is easier to ride the horse in the direction it is running. Oil has and will continue to run.
