Athersys Readies for Large-scale Production of MultiStem

Following successful testing of a single Terumo BCT Quantum Cell Expansion System by ReGenesys BVBA (Athersys' European affiliate) last year, ReGenesys recently teamed with MaSTherCell S.A. to test full-scale production of MultiStem in batches of up to 10B cells using 10 Quantum systems. The production tests were apparently successful and the claim is that cost savings were on the order of 40% over manual cell expansion methods.
From what I can gather, the process takes two technicians 6 days to manufacture 10B cells (a bit over 8 doses) using 10 cell Quantum Cell Expansion Systems. Including additional processing and batch testing time, the two technicians produced two batches in three weeks.
